ALKAscore is a project to develop a meaningful scoring system for diets. To combine:

The first phase of the ALKAscore project has established WWEIA Food Categories PRAL Index. Which provides PRAL alkalinity scores for all USDA database foods. Categorized by the food groups developed by What We Eat In America.

I am now extending that index to provide more foods and alternative groupings. In order to ensure that practical estimation of acid load is as easy as it can be. Both for diet planning, and for assessing progress. The inspiration for ALKAscore came from LAKE food screener research. Dietary guidelines describe three healthy USDA Dietary Patterns: U.S.-Style; Vegetarian; and Mediterranean-Style. So I will develop ALKAscore around these healthy dietary patterns first. Then expand to develop variants based on DASH, FODMAP, and other recognized disease-support diets.

To stay updated with ALKAscore dietary patterns, I recommend you subscribe to my free update service:

However, all alkaline diet systems that I have seen have one significant failing. Because they fail to recognize that people will seek to maximize their alkalinity score. At the cost of poor nutrient balance. So they focus on individual foods and drinks rather than considering overall healthy diet. So I will develop ALKAscore as a weekly scoring system for established healthy dietary patterns.

Healthy Dietary Patterns
