ALKAscore is a project to develop a meaningful scoring system for diets. To combine:
- Scientific benefits of acid load estimation.
- Conformance scores for healthy dietary patterns.
Acid Load Estimation
The first phase of the ALKAscore project has established WWEIA Food Categories PRAL Index. Which provides PRAL alkalinity scores for all USDA database foods. Categorized by the food groups developed by What We Eat In America.
I am now extending that index to provide more foods and alternative groupings. In order to ensure that practical estimation of acid load is as easy as it can be. Both for diet planning, and for assessing progress. The inspiration for ALKAscore came from LAKE food screener research.
However, all alkaline diet systems that I have seen have one significant failing. Because they fail to recognize that people will seek to maximize their alkalinity score. At the cost of poor nutrient balance. So they focus on individual foods and drinks rather than considering overall healthy diet. So I will develop ALKAscore as a weekly scoring system for established healthy dietary patterns.
Healthy Dietary Patterns
Dietary guidelines describe three healthy USDA Dietary Patterns: U.S.-Style; Vegetarian; and Mediterranean-Style. So I will develop ALKAscore around these healthy dietary patterns first. Then expand to develop variants based on DASH, FODMAP, and other recognized disease-support diets.
To stay updated with ALKAscore dietary patterns, I recommend you subscribe to my free update service:
ALKAscore.com is where I collect food, nutrient, and diet data for people who like to track and plan their eating habits. All the data supports articles from Foodary Nutrition Facts. Also, this data and Foodary facts are supported by scientific research in the Foodary Library.
However, many people want to enjoy eating without worrying about facts and figures. So I am developing EFSEP where meals, recipes, and menus come first. Safe in the knowledge that “Eat Food – Sufficient – Especially Plants” is supported by sound scientific principles.
The easiest way for you to find food, nutrient, and diet data is to search for whatever concerns you. Simply type your concern into the search box near the top of every ALKAscore page.
Please let me know how your search results help you. Or if I can improve them. To that end, I hope to re-introduce a forum soon. But you can always use the feedback form near the end of every ALKAscore page.
